Wordpress: Your backup directory is NOT writable!

I am apparently running in Safe-Mode, which I am not. All the folders have write access.
Your backup program is also looking for:

/home/.sites/22/site31/web/wp-content/backup-4d7e9/
Which I also do not appear to have. I do have folders labeled wp-admin, wp-content, and wp-includes

Is there a way to make your program point to a different location?

OK. Problem solved. Found the backup folder but could not change the rights without deleting it first and recreating it. All backed up.

Next step is moving the backup to the cloud. Here goes.

Free WebDav Provider I can use with SMEStorage

sync schedule

AS I understand, I should be able to do the following...but I can't quite see how using your tools.

1) Select a folder (and subfolders...ideally be able to 'deselect' some of these), for sync
2) sync these to SMESpace, which will distribute them across my storage providers (and I'll be able to see where each is by using your file browser)

When I try and use the Sync Center, I can't see how to add folders to just upload them to the storage space - when I try, it looks like it's copying these to a space on my hard drive...which I obviously don't want for 2 reasons 1) duplication 2) it won't propagate changes (or deletions/additions)

The sync center doesn't seem to have any walk-through guidance on the 'wiki'

If the sync center itself cannot do this, is it possible to set up another providers sync software to send data to SMESpace, for it to then 'do its thing'?

On a related issue, ideally I'd like to be able to tell SMESpace how much space it can use on each of my storage centers (either as a % or more likely in gb terms).

SkyDrive FAQ

Please refer to the below updated FAQ on MS SkyDrive:

Note When you export a file to SkyDrive the full path will be exported i.e. if you export an image called myimage.gif which reside in a folder structure called test->myimages from your root smestorage directory then it will reside in MS Skydrive within My Documents->test->myimages->myimage.gif.

If you are using MS SkyDrive as your main cloud provider then any uploads you make outside of your Skydrive->documents folder will be uploaded to a folder called SMEStorage on SkyDrive (that is auto created).

16th October 2009:

First beta release. No issues reported at this time.

Box.Net Provider not working (fixed)

The Box.net provider has been broken by some major changes that Box.net have done to their API. We are fixing this right now and will provide an update when this is done.

UPDATE:

The Box.net provider is now fixed after they changed their API. All Box.net users will need to Re-sync their file metadata with SMEStorage. You can do this from the sidebar using My Account->Providers. Select 'Synchronise'. This will re-sync your files. Upload and download will then work as normal.

The new changes in the Box.net API are that each interaction with the API now requires authentication rather than having a token for the session, which is onerous and not what is normally considered best practice. it also adds an overhead of about a second to interacting with the API. Also, the upload host changed from box.net to upload.box.net (although the old endpoint still works for now). Lastly, the download endpoint now redirects to another host.

Only 1 session can now be used when authenticated, so if you are logged into Box.net when you go to use SMEStorage, your Box.net session will be logged out.

Import / Export for Google Apps Email users

I've had a question about how to import/export files if you are a Google Apps user as if you enter your Google Apps email details in the default GMail import/export you cannot proceed as you do not have a "@gmail" email domain.

You can do this using the 'anyemail' import/export option. You need to fill the details in as follow"

Email address: Your Google Apps email address

POP3/IMAP Host: imap.gmail.com

POP3/IMAP Port: 993

Secure POP3/IMAP Checkbox - Check this

Type of Email box access - Check IMAP

Email Address - enter your Google Apps email address for SMTP

Password: Enter your Google Apps Email password (we only store this for the session)

SMTP Host: Enter smtp.gmail.com

Secure SMTP Connection - check this box

SMTP Requires authentication - check this box

If you use this configuration you will be able to import / export your Google apps email to your chosen clouds or vice-versa.

Windows Tools on Vista SP1 and Windows 7 RC 1

We've been notified of a bug on the virtual drive component and the explorer on Windows Vista SP1 and Windows 7 RC1. We are working to fix this, and if you have this problem you can get a new version of the explorer here that will work on these platforms.

We will introduce a new build of the windows tooling to solve this in the next week or so.

GMail Backup FAQ

When backing up your GMail account using the email backup feature please note the following:

1. The correct settings for GMail backup are pop.gmail.com, port 955 and SSL on.

2. Once you have done a GMail backup the next backup will occur from the point the last backup left off i.e. it will not backup the whole mail box again. This is because GMail marks the emails as downloaded and so they are not available for backup again.

3. If you have a large GMail account you should always schedule this to occur as a background task as it could take a long time for all the emails to be backed up.

Also note that if you are using GMail as your Cloud Data Provider you cannot backup a GMail account. The session will start but then hang in the browser or will not complete if scheduled. This is due to multiple authenticated sessions. We are looking at a workaround for this and will provide an update in the future.

Gmail question

Hi,
I've just set up an account with SME and I selected the premium plus package. But I'm wondering, would it be possible to utilize the GMail cloud storage option with the current account or would I have to create a separate account? I selected the premium plus option because I have music files I'd like to backup and assumed the transfer rate over Google would be very slow. But, I do have other files that I could backup utilizing Gmail, thus leaving more space for the music files.

I cannot seem to register my email with the service. I get this notice:

Error: it was not previously established a SMTP connection
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/webadmin/smetube.com/html/smestorage/include/anyemail_pop3.inc.php on line 221

What am I doing wrong?

How to use your own Amazon S3 Account rather than a SMEStorage S3 account

At the moment using your own Amazon S3 Account is only available in our Lifetime Cloud package, which also gives you access to all our other cloud providers, which can be used in a mix and match type fashion.

What if I want to use Amazon S3 but do not want a lifetime cloud option ?

You can visit OpenS3.com and request an invite to an Amazon S3 single user beta. Once this has been evaluated, and if you are successful then you will be given a single user Amazon S3 account for SMEStorage in which you can use your own keys to access your own Amazon S3 data. The process for setting up your account once approved is very straightforward and is described here.

Amazon S3 Authentication

Amazon access keys and secret keys are analogous to a user id and password which authenticate the user to access the Amazon s3 account. This means that you can access your files stored at S3, directly via SMEStorage.

Amazon's authentication mechanism works in a way that client hashes includes HTTP headers, the request body, the URL, and the date, amongst other details. Instead of asking for an account password, Amazon assigns each API user a secret key for use in such hashes. The secret cannot be used to retrieve API user account details, and the user can make it invalidated at any point and have it re-generated if the user thinks it's been leaked or breached.

All tools that work with your Amazon data need to use your key. For example other tools that allow you to access your Amazon data also have to use your Amazon Keys.

You can choose, if you wish, to enter your Amazon keys each time you login to the SMEStorage service. This won't affect any of your information etc it will still be available after you login. I

f you choose to save your keys, they are stored encrypted in our Database using public/private key SHA-1 encryption, so they are safe, but if you wish you can just use your keys on a session by session basis.

Does account expire after non-use period?

Setting up / Working with Facebook

To start sharing your files on Facebook is fairly straightforward. The steps are outlined below:

1. Register for an Account with SMEStorage

2. Once you logged in and uploaded some files you can set some of your files to public.

3. You do this by clicking on the share icon within the "File Manager" Tab, as shown below:

4. You will now be able to set the File to Public

5. Add the Facebook App to your Facebook Account

6. Once you have set your Facebook widget password details with your SMEStorage user logon and password, all your public files will be available to any other Facebook users who are using SMEStorage. All their public files will also be available to you if they are using SMEStorage.

7. Also don't forget you get your own url which you can share which shows all your public files. This is available from your Account Bar on SMEStorage.
