I have spent the better part of the day trying to see if SME Storage will be a good solution for the wordpress site I am working on.  It took me a while to figure out the reason the files didn't show up using the widget was because although they are marked public in Google Docs, they were not set to be public in SME.  Is there some way to specify that all files should be public?  Or will I have to come in here and make each file public before it shows up on the wordpress site?  At the moment, I'm not even able to find where I can mark the files public.  I see icons for sharing, but nothing for public that I can see.
My objective is to make this as simple and idiot proof as possible - I need the high school band teacher to be able to upload files to google docs and have them automatically show up on this wordpress site without any additional steps on her part.  Is this possible?  Thanks for your help.

Hi,  you can set files public from any of the clients. For example just click on a file in the Web File Manager and choose to make it public (see sshot).

I'm not sure that there is an automated way if you are uploading you files via Google Docs. If you upload via SMEStorage then you can just set the file public after upload.

Note you can also combine encryption with public files so that anyone who clicks on the file will not be able to access without a password, even if the files are public.

Thanks for the information.  I was able to make those files public.  This would be a perfect option for us, if there were a way for all files in the directory to be automatically set as public.  Without that, I'm afraid this won't work for me since it would be too complicated for the band teacher to have to come in and change permissions on every file.  Sort of defeats the purpose for us.

What we if we extended the concept to a public folder in which files uploaded to it were automatically set public?

If the files for the folder are being accessed from Google Docs, then that would be great.   She could just know that every file she uploads to that google docs account is going to be public and available on the wordpress site.

I guess "retrieved" is the more accurate term than accessed.  I just need the files to have been uploaded to and residing in a google docs account.

I think this could be done with a simple schedule task on the Google Docs folder you nominate that would retrieve the files. I've made a note to add the ability to have a public folder (in addition to the current ability to set files to public) which should come out in the next couple of weeks. I'll post here when it is done.

That will be great.  Thanks!

The Public folder was added into the file manager so users can easily drag and drop files or batches of files to this folder directly from the file manager.
