Hi

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to map a single folder using WebDav (e.g. mapping a driver to Windows Explorer)? I'd like to be able to 'share' one of my folders with a work laptop, but not my entire OneDrive set of folders.

Also, is there any way to encrypt data mapped to a drive in this way (I currently use Boxcryptor for some files in OneDrive).

Thanks for any advice!

Hi,

You can use a specific folder with WebDAV by including the full path in the URL when you assign a drive letter. e.g. \\webdav.storagemadeeasy.com\Engineering\

To encrypt the folder:

Under Policies > Encryption:
- Check "Allow to organization users to set their own encryption phrases".
- Check "Encryption phrase to encrypt all files works for nominated folders"
- Set a password

The you can nominate just the folder you want encrypted via the web file manager (folder action - "Nominate for Encryption")

Thanks, Steven

Can the encryption be done using the SME web client (I have only the free account at the moment, using S3, and will be adding OneDrive if I can map a Windows 7/Windows 10 network drive to a single OneDrive folder.

Hi Steven

Sorry, another question. If I've mapped OneDrive to SME, and have a OneDrive folder I want to map to a network drive, what would be the full path to use? All the combinations I've tried so far don't seem to work.

Thanks again

Hi Stuart,

I used https://webdav.storagemadeeasy.com/ in a browser and navigated to the folder I wanted to use.  Then I took that URL and used it to map to a drive letter replacing forward slashes with backslashes such as \\webdav.storagemadeeasy.com\Engineering\ .

If this doesn't work for you provide as much information as you can (e.g. screenshots) and send to support@storagemadeeasy.com.

Steven

Hi Steven

That worked fine (I had to change the URL to refer to the EU server though!).

Regarding encryption - I still don't see an option from the SME site to encrypt files and don't quite understand how this might work if the drive with encrypted files is then mapped to a Windows Explorer network drive.

Thanks again for your help

The hosted service provides two levels of encryption depending not he user profile.

1. Encryption for Personal Users - Encryption is on a file by file basis. No encryption key is stored on the service.
2. Encryption for companies in which the encryption key is either stored, encrypted,  on the service or reference from a third party vault service that the company sets up.

If you are a personal user and using WebDav the files will not be encrypted as WebDav does not give the facility to interact directly with the service to set an on-demand encryption password.

If you are a business user and using WebDav and have set a corporate encryption key then the files will be encrypted using WebDav as no interaction is required as the server-side key is used (or separate key server).
