Hi,

I am starting to use SME on my Windows 7 PC, but have noticed that compared to other tools out there it seems to give very poor performance for access the web drive e.g. if in my computer I click on the Drive Letter for SME it takes a noticeable amount of time to return the data and again for each folder, are there any changes to settings in SME or Windows I can make to improve the performance?

I have noticed that when I use the Android App on my mobile it is faster at returning the data, I know this isn't true representation, but when you are using 3G on a Mobile and it is faster than the 10mb connection no the PC I have concerns!

Thanks,

Gavin,

Yes, initially browsing folders might be slower than, for example SMEStorage Explorer or the mobile clients due to call backs needed for device drivers in Windows. This is what adds most of the initial delay which is noticeable at the first opening of a folder, subsequent openings are very fast, as the file list is cached for 5 minutes.

It is recommended to exclude the virtual drive from anti-virus and other file-monitoring tools or shell extensions, like context menus (remember the drive providers a view on files so anti-virus is not needed as any files downloaded are scanned when they hit the local drive). For example, custom context menus can add substantial delays when retrieving folder/file properties (on right-click or from menu) as invariably every request has to be go to the Cloud.

Also, in Windows 7, it is mandatory to turn off Details and Preview panes from Organize -> Layout menu (we added the workaround to turn them off when mounting, but a user can turn them on after that). This is to fix Windows misbehavior consisting in reading some types of files even if the user did not click on them.
